Summary: Business By Design is a coaching program that can teach you how to create, launch, and scale your digital products in almost every niche you can think of.
If your goal is to become a product owner and build a massive following of loyal customers, this program can definitely help you.
Keep in mind that you may need $5K or more in start up costs for outsourcing and possibly lead generation.
By the looks of it, James Wedmore has a big social media presence and has been featured in numerous product launch platforms, like Kajabi, which is definitely a good sign that you can trust him with your hard earned money.
However, being a proud product owner comes with its own responsibilities, such as making sure that you update your product regularly, hiring a team of experts to help with your day to day tasks, dealing with customer service issues, refunds, and more.
I’m not saying that it’s not worth it, because it is. However, if you’re just getting starting with making money online, there are easier and cost effective ways to learn how to properly launch an online business without all the struggles that come with owning your own products.
If that sounds like you, take a look at my recommendation below, and learn how to leverage other people’s products and earn money by partnering with them instead.
What is Business By Design?
Business By Design is a 6 module program that goes over everything you need to know about launching your own digital product.
From laying out the foundations to positioning your offer in front of the right audience and scaling your online business. It’s all there, neatly packed in a high ticket training course for your convenience.
Since the price tag is considerably high, it’s important to know exactly what to expect inside, and what it means to own your own product.
It may seem like a profitable venture, but you should probably consider whether or not you’re ready to take on the role of a leader in your respective industry first.
What Do Digital Product Owners Do?
Odds are that you will be using your own personal name, face, and character to create a brand around your newly launched product. This means that you are now responsible for making sure that you take care of people’s money.
In other words, you better give them what you promise, and more or your career as a product launcher will likely end badly.
Since everything online sticks like glue, even if you do decide to make a comeback, people will know your previous failures and determine if they want to work with you based on the information that’s out there about you.
You should have pretty thick skin because you will have negative press even if you do everything right, and you will have to deal with bloggers like me that review your stuff regularly.
A quick pro tip is to NOT take everything that people say about you in a way that can get you to lose motivation, and stop working towards your self improvement, future, and success.
Not everyone will be on your side, and if you start doing things right, you will likely acquire the occasional hater calling you out, etc.
Constructive criticism is good and you should probably listen to it every now and again, but that’s different than having haters, which is why it’s important to learn how to distinguish between the two.
Is Business By Design a Scam?
Business By Design is NOT a scam. It’s a training program created to help digital product creators that struggle to become profitable and everyone else looking to get into the industry.
If you have some kind of knowledge, you want to educate more people and make money online while you’re at it, then James Wedmore’s program can be for you.
According to him, you can have a profitable launch in 90 days of becoming a member without spending a ton of money on ads and without building big lists.
I already covered what it takes to be a successful digital product launcher in a nutshell and how much it could potentially cost.
Here’s who will NOT benefit from Business By Design.
Ecommerce store owners. If you’re already selling products, there is no point in investing your money here.
Affiliate marketers. If you’re like me, and you prefer to capitalize on products and services that are already proven to sell, have a good reputation, and don’t like the idea of dealing with customer service, complaints, refunds, or don’t want to invest a lot of money in outsourcing all of these things plus more, then you should consider promoting other people’s products.
Everyone is looking for affiliates to work with, and if you decide to go down that route, you will bypass a lot of initial hurdles and struggles that most digital product owners deal with regularly.

Let’s take a closer look at each module inside Business By Design and find out exactly what to expect.
Module 0 – Laying the Foundation
Inside this module, you will get familiar with the member’s area, get access to the private Facebook group, and learn where to get all relevant information about upcoming live events. The last part of this module will introduce you to the 90 day action plan.
Over there, you get to choose between establishing a niche market, building an audience, outsourcing, identifying a product to sell, mastering step by step systems, relaunching previous products and beta launches.
Your patch of choice should e based on your current level of experience in digital product creation and your goals.
Module 1 – You By Design
This module is all about your mindset. Being a digital entrepreneur has its own ups and downs. It takes a certain kind of mindset to push through the hard times.
Knowing WHY you’re doing this will definitely help you progress even when it feels impossible. You may not think that mindset is important, but trust me, it is.
By training your mindset, you can develop the discipline needed to achieve success with any business venture, be it online or offline. There are 7 lessons here in total, and they are as follows:
– Finding your WHY.
– The 1 common trait that all successful online business owners have.
– Your beliefs about business.
– Alignment.
– How to schedule your time.
– Letting go of the one thing holding you back.
If you already have some business experience, this module probably won’t impress you all that much. However, if you’ve never done anything similar, you will want to go through this module in full.
Module 2 – Working By Design
This part of the training is the next logical step towards achieving success as a digital product launcher, and that is developing the right kind of habits.
This is especially important for newbies. Since most of the things inside are going to be new, you will have to adapt to that new knowledge and all accompanying tasks that may arise throughout your online journey to success.
Will power will only get you so far. You need to have consistency, which is developed by forming the RIGHT habits. There are 11 lessons here in total. Each one focuses on specific aspects and steps you need to take to start forming the right working habits.
Module 3 – Offer By Design
This module will help you learn what makes an offer irresistible and how to position it in front of people that want to buy it.
There are 12 lessons in total, and they cover things like, implementing marketing tactics for an increase of conversions, delivering on your promises, offering bonuses creating a captivating story, and more.
Module 4 – Your Sales System
This is the key ingredient for success. Without a proper sales system in place, it doesn’t matter how great your product is.
There are 15 lessons here, each one covering essentials such as identifying your target audience, figuring out their pain points, solving them, objection handling, and more.
You should take your time here and dive deep into each lesson provided. It can be the difference between your success and failure.
Module 5 – Team By Design
James breaks down the entire team building process into 4 simple steps, and they are as follows:
– Solopreneur. That’s you. You can only take on a certain set of tasks each day. That’s why you need to choose wisely what’s worth dealing with yourself and what could be outsourced.
– Hiring Virtual Assistants. You can use platforms like Fiverr and Upwork to hire VA’s at reasonable prices.
– Freelancers. They will cost you more, but you will expect them to complete harder tasks that require specific skills.
– Building Your Own Team.
There are 7 lessons here, each one equally important as the other. Most of the things taught inside are for business owners interested in scaling their business.
In other words, if you’re just starting out, you may want to hold off onboarding a team of freelancers, and VA’s, or you could risk losing more money than needed.
Module 6 – Scale By Design
The final module is all bout scaling your business and reaching new heights. Once you’ve mastered all the other modules, you’ve implemented the steps, and you’re making money with your new online business, the next logical step is to scale it and reach even more people.
There are 7 lessons here that go over things like, what to do when a launch fails, what to do post-launch, doubling down on your promotions, automating as much of your online business as you can, and more.
What I Like About Business By Design
1. It’s Created By Someone That Knows What They’re Doing. James Wedmore clearly has experience in launching profitable digital products and services, which means that he can definitely help others achieve the same.
2. The Course is Detailed. Everything about launching your own online product is covered inside James Wedmore’s program.
3. Business By Design is About Helping People. If the founder was only interested in making money online, I doubt that this training program would be available for a short period of time each year.
The way I see it, James does not want to enroll too many people at the same time because it will make it very difficult for members to receive personal support and help when they need it.
What I Don’t Like About Business By Design
1.You Need a Bigger Budget to Get Started. Apart from the course fees, you will end up spending additional money on resources, tools, etc.
2. It’s Not Suitable For Beginners. In my opinion, there are easier ways for beginner entrepreneurs to get started with making money online.
Is There a Better Alternative?
If you’re looking to create your online product or service, you can afford to invest a few thousand dollars in this business venture, and you’re fully aware of exactly what you’re getting into, then Business By Design is probably the right move for you.
However, if you’re a beginner looking to start an online business, I think that there are better alternatives that you should explore.
Instead of creating a product, you could partner with product owners as an affiliate marketer.
If you have hobbies, interests, and knowledge in particular topics, you can utilize them and create a striving online business without having to invest thousands of dollars to get started, and without dealing with problems that most product owners handle on a daily basis. Thanks to affiliate marketing, I’m able to have paydays like this one.
That’s how I know it works. All you have to do is connect people with products and services they need, and leave the rest to the product owners to handle. It’s that simple.
